PROCEDURE: In the event of a suspicious package or device on the premises follow these steps:
- Treat any threat as a REAL AND IMMINENT DANGER.
- Do NOT touch any package of a suspicious nature. Contact Safety and Support Services (SASS) immediately. SASS will contact the authorities or instruct reception to do so.
In the event of any threatening phone call indicating a bomb or explosive:
- Stay calm. Talk calmly and get as much information as possible:
- While continuing to talk with the caller, keeping the caller on the line, flag down anyone in your immediate vicinity and convey [write a note to them] that they need to go to another phone and dial 911 immediately.
- Write the time the call originated and the number if you have Caller ID or digital readout
- Listen and determine as much identifying information as possible; take notes if you can:
- Male or female voice
- Estimation of age by the sound of voice
- Emotional – hostile – mad – crying, etc.
- Accent – stutter – pitch of voice – high – deep
- Any distinguishing background noises
- Any unique language/word choices
- Determine if the connection seems to be a landline or cell
- As soon as the caller hangs up, be sure 911 is called.
- Contact Safety and Support Services (SASS) immediately
Mobilize and evacuate the premises IMMEDIATELY until authorities deem it safe to re-enter.
